History of India

History of India: India is a country of different culture and History.  It varies from North to South and from East to West. Even though India is blend of many culture still people live together with love and harmony. Culture is an expression of opinion or feelings of people.  Right from Indus Valley Civilisation till today culture underwent lot of changes and got modified. Let’s discuss different phases of culture at different times. Indian history dates back to one of the oldest civilisations in the world. The history of India includes from indus valley civilisations to the rise of various religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism. India was ruled by many important dynasties before and after Christ. The different culture, religion which these rulers left have a major impact even today on the lives of Indian people.

Indus Valley Civilisation:

One of the oldest civilisations that occurred around 2500-1500 BC is Indus Valley Civilisation.  This civilisation flourished along the banks of river Indus and its tributaries which include present day Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Vedic civilisation:

After Indus Valley Civilisation another important civilisation existed was Vedic Civilisation. Veda means knowledge. In Vedic Civilisation four Vedas were composed and also in later Vedic period two main epics Ramayana and Mahabharata were written. 

India before Christ:

The history of India began when human being first appeared on globe. The history can be broadly be divided into stone age, bronze age and chalcolitic age. It was started almost 7000 years back but no proper records are available. It can be said that stone age did exist along the river Narmada. Paleolitic Age:

Paleolitic age is a prehistoric period of human history who used stones as wapons and tools. Paleo means old and litic means stone. They were hunter gatherers. 

Mesolitic age:

This age corresponds between Paleolithic and Neolithic age. With the improvement in climatic conditions human inhabitation also increased. This period also refers to as middle stone age.

Neolithic age:

Neolithic period also known as new stone age period. This age lasted approximately from 8000BC-3000BC. New occupation started to develop. 

Chalcolithic age:

Chalcolithic age can be considered as a transition period from neolithic age and bronze age. People started to use tools made up of metals like copper and its alloy bronze.

From 16th century onwards India was invaded by Portuguese and France. The European trading companies started to get attracted towards India's vast wealth and started doing trading. Slowly the British which came to India for trading started to establish it's rule on Indians. British established the east India company in 1600. The fight, struggle and the blood shed of Indians to get freedom from the Britishers is very painful.

       


Culture of India

Buddhism:

Buddhism started around 6th century BC when Hinduism was taking strong root in Indian culture during Vedic period. Buddhism was started by Gautama . This is one of the oldest religion which is practised till date. For further understanding 

Jainism:

Another important religion that cropped during Buddhism period is Jainism.  Jains trace their history through24 thirtankars. For further information.

Hinduism:  One of the oldest religions in the world is Hinduism. It is the third largest religion followed by people worldwide. Hinduism is widely practised in India and in some other Asian countries. The word Hindu is derived from the Sanskrit word Sindhu (which is the name of the river). 

Hindu philosophy:

Philosophy is an integral part of any religion in India. Philosophers are great thinkers and very good advisers. It is a strong belief of any philosophers that any problem can be solved with the help of philosophy. Every human being has an urge to known who created the earth, the nature, the death and the birth.

Sikhism: It is the youngest religion among the world which was founded in 15th century by Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The word ‘Sikh’ is originated from Punjabi which means disciple and the religion was founded in Punjab region. Guru Nanak Dev Ji was the first guru of 15th century in Punjab region of India

Islam religion: Another important and prominent religion in India is Islam. It is a very old religion. Over 12% of India’s population are Muslims. Even though only 12% follow Islam still Islam has major influence on Indian society and culture probably because of many Islamic rulers ruled different parts of India for many decades

Christianity: Christianity is the largest religion in the world. 33% of the world population follow Christianity which means nearly 2.5 billion are Christians.  People who follow Christianity are called as Christians. Christians believe in the life, preachings of Jesus of Nazerth. Jesus is known as Christ. The sacred book which Christians follow is called as ‘Bible’.


Other Indian dynasties:
